Material
Old Growth Cypress
Like a timeless symphony, the splendor and grandeur of Old Growth Cypress emanate from its age. Sourced from the heart of Louisiana, our Old Growth Cypress timber is salvaged from century-old trees. This aged wood possesses a remarkable density and dryness compared to fresh-cut timber, endowing it with unparalleled strength and durability, thus safeguarding against deformation over time. Its exquisite, tight-grained texture makes it an ideal option for projects seeking to highlight the innate brilliance of the wood. The resilient and magnificent attributes of antique Old Growth Cypress are precisely why The Olde Mill is proud to offer cypress as an option.
Material
Reclaimed Longleaf Pine
Like fine wine, the beauty and majesty of Longleaf Pine comes from its age. Our Longleaf Pine lumber has been salvaged from 100+ year old buildings set for demolition. This antique wood is much harder and dryer than virgin wood, attributes that lend to its strength and longevity, which keeps it from warping and twisting with age. Its beautiful, close-grained appearance makes it an excellent choice for projects showcasing the wood’s natural brilliance. The tenacious and splendid characteristics of antique Longleaf Pine is the reason The Olde Mill selects it as their production material.
Process
Exceptional Craftsmanship
Our process begins with salvaged wood that is milled into ¼” veneers. These veneers are then laminated to a plywood substrate. From there, we give the edges a locking miter profile, to ensure that all sides interlock smoothly, before assembling it with a high-quality, water-resistant wood glue. This process results in a seamless beam that appears solid on the outside, yet is completely hollow inside.
